this movie speaks so innocently true about teenagers. it's kinda like a documentary that's not on how teenagers overcome adversities since everything is so authentic and not made-up to become your hollywood movie. just listen to the lingo and juno's quirkiness... oh i'm in love with juno. ellen page just owned that character. fo shizzle.

the MURAKAMIs in my life

Ever since I've flipped the last page of Norwegian Wood, that's when I became a fan of Haruki Murakami's work. And as much as possible I wanted to get my hands on his best works. This afternoon, it that same exerience was all like a deja vu to me after visiting MOCA (Museum Of Contemporary Art). I was introduced to another Murakami, Takashi Murakami. He's a contemporary artist better known as the one who did the cover of Kanye West's new album...

this guy insanely genius! his works are mostly on canvas(meaning murals) or sculptures. even some explicit content. but sad to say i never got to snap some photos of his work since it wasn't allowed. all of it were graphic oriented or what others may call cartoonish. i wanted to get his book but quite pricey so i guess id have to wait for next time. but anyhow this exhibit was worth every Murakami masterpiece. makes my visit here in LA even more amazing.

This is definetly the one of best movie I've seen this year! If you're into The Beatles, then this one is for you. But even if you're not and just a hopeless romantic, this movie will still get you. Across the Universe is pretty much a love story told from the music of The Beatles.It's a musical but the type like Moulin Rouge. Jude (Yes the guy from Paul's song, which incidentally looks like Paul himself too) and Lucy (in the sky...) become lovers but are torn apart by the war. You will also notice a lot of familiar characters in the movie, including Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin (I think...) and their names! they are mostly made up of The Beatles' songs. This movie does not only serve up to The Beatles fans but to all music fans in general.

My favorite scene was when Strawberry Fields was playing. It's like a music video with psychadelic artsy fartsy injected to it. MAGNIFICO MI AMIGOS! When you see it you'll get it. There's a lot to say but I don't want to be a spoiler. But music aside, you also have to give credit to the director, writers and everyone else since it is not easy to make a movie out of songs. If you notice the plot was guided by the songs which I have to say seems really difficult. Not to say that I'm trying to be a director or anything but anything with limitations really makes it hard to execute things. I recommend this to everyone, also because of its subliminal message which tells everyone to STOP THE WAR!

"around March of this year I was judging for the CCP short film competition and there was one film that clearly ' blew everyone else out of the water. it was a short called CARPOOL, directed by Jerrold Tarog" -taken directly from intrigero (mister quark henares' blog)

so i checked out CARPOOL and to my delight i enjoyed it so much that i had to put it here for everyone to see this excellent (say it like mr. burns while crossing your two hands) film.

i also pasted the other film intrigero mentioned which i never completely understood except that it tells the local rock scene here in the philippines kaya naman MANILA ROCK. yung title niya. intersting ung film and it even features my former teacher in Lit.

Before my memory deteriorates I am putting up a list of my local favorite shows that i have enjoyed for the past 21 years. because the airwaves have been flooded with soap opera non-stop it's relieving to know that there are still some good shows out there who noticed that not all filipinos are into the these teleserye or fantaserye. unfortunately the two big networks of this land don't know how to handle their market and give in to their wants. too busy raking in cash they have obliviously created a culture that knows nothing but to put the people's future into the hands of noon-time-shows and telenovelas. luckily for some of us who haven't been sucked into this craze there are tv shows with refreshing themes that moves away from the cinderella story.

1) STRANGEBREW (scrapped)


This show made me an instant follower of RA Rivera's works. Just add water and you'll instantly be a convert. TAMA!

Every episode starts with Tado, who is a bum, orders Erning around to clean and drive the auto. The reality comedy show which features fun facts about how things are made in a factory or making a movie. This maybe crazy non-sense at times but at the end of the show you'll definitely learn a thing or two about spelling. TAMA! This show rocketed the career of Tado into the showbiz world and as for Erning Im still translating every spanish phrase she inserted in every conversation.

2) MOMMY ELVIE'S PROBLEMATIC SHOW


Don't be fooled by Mommy Elvie's age. She is one cool lola who has the energy and attitude of a teenager. Just look at that pose and it's easy to tell that she won't back off from any tricks that his son "Ariel with a capital A" has stored for her. So the show is about Mommy Elvie trying to become a celebrity before she turns 80, currently 79. We get to witness a lot of drama (not the juday drama but the tampuhang pa-cute drama), and comedy that takes place on the day-to-day lives of both mother and son. The two characters exemplify the fact that life should not to be taken too seriously.

Airs every Tuesday night at 10pm on ABC5!

3) ON-AIR TAMBAYAN (scrapped)

Remember that booth shaped like a videocam in Glorietta 4 that used to sit on the same floor as the theaters, Wendy's and Timezone?! YES...That booth that entitles you to "1-minute of fame", that same booth that gives out prizes who ever belts out the best on-cam performance and that same venue that gave birth to the Maverick & Ariel tandem. This was actually the reformatted show with a few additions to the show such as the "cocococorny segment" - where viewers send in their jokes, ala "babe of the week", and the letter segment where concerned citizens never shut up about JM Rodriguez's nose.

4) JUNIOR REYES REPORTS (scrapped)

I forgot how the plot of this show went on but I remember it seemed something like Strangebrew in the sense that they tackle the daily lives of normal citizens with the same casual Q+A portions, same wittiness and comicness but more constructive.

5) DIREK (scrapped)

Part of the IDEAL MIND's WEDNESDAY LUPET NIGHTS (refer to #3,4,5) similar to the two shows on top, this features a director in the form of Gabe Mercado of Yakult's Ok ka ba tyan fame, who struggles with his career and has the show "chismax", which is about showbiz chismis.

6) IT'S A GUY THING

I haven't seen this in a long time but I do know I enjoy watching it every Wednesdays night.

7) MAD MAD FUN

Sexy host (rhian ramos), uber talented crew (ra rivera, quark henares, etc), great bands that get tortured (no blood though) and the kawaii girls!!!

WHAT MORE CAN YOU ASK?! ...........maybe a longer show :)

8) JACK YARD (scrapped)

Half the show plugs the other Jack tv shows, which is already too much considering that there are regular commercials getting shown on the channel, but the other half is what I enjoy better which is music. The latest music, bands, songs, gigs, concert are featured here which you hardly see on MTV and MYX since they're mostly indie.

9) TAKESHI'S CASTLE

I never enjoyed the new version of this show on GMA as much as I did before. I have to say it's in the way the hosts do it. My vote still goes to Anjo Yllana and Smokey Manoloto, hands down for the entertaining coverage they exhibited. Although I still get amused by the challenges they throw on the show -the maze still gets my blood rush, I miss the way Smokey would cover his mouth and make a giggle laugh behind a fan and even the Snacku commercials!

time for a break!

half of my list are shows that have already been scrapped but at least you still have the other half to enjoy.

witnessed two new bands last night at RJ Bar, it was a great experience being devirginated to the sound of, NYCTINASTY a four piece emo all-girl-band and PICTUREFILLED, same genre but of different breed. im talking about another new talent from the south that's something to watch out for. THE AMBASSADORS also performed and URBANDUB was the main event for the night and thankfully they performed some of their new songs from their upcoming album. they're still laying the down the tracks but from what i heard last night, it will be another great album for the pride of the south. they played two fresh cuts and three from Embrace.

out of the two tracks, i enjoyed "when the fight is over". not sure about the title.

i recently lost some of my files to the attack of the sneaky torjan horses and other viruses. it's just annoying when these things happen and most notably the why! why are these things even created. this just proves that idleness is truly a workshop of the devil. fucking people haters, it must have been those computer geeks who have their own black notebook and swore to take down the world someday. well it happened already and hopefully like i said last time, that my pc won't crash to them bugs!

on my way to rebuilding my lost mp3 files, it was heartbreaking when i found out that part of the files missing are the b-sides from bloc party's sophomore album. na pa mura talaga ako ng malutong na tangina nung di ko makita!

this is my second day on the net trying to recall all those missing files from my collection. sobrang hirap cuz some of the files are either expired or have been removed already. well im off again to my mission. b-side mission.
